Mystical Meditation

Often when we think of the word mystic the Christian connection is the last thing on our mind. But there is a lot to be gained in the thinking of early Church father’s. Be it from Aesthetics, Priests, Monks or Christian Mystics.

Christian Mysticism from Spiritual statutes, mediations and formalised prayer grant us an avenue to embrace God deeply in news ways. They offer focus and guidance, encouragement and communion. The opportunity for a mystical faith with our loving Father God.

Within them we see three basic principles – Visualise, Internalise and Realise. Visualise by setting our eyes on God, Internalise by listening to God in this quiet sacred space. Finally Realise the reality of what He brings forth in your life through drawing closer to Him.

Here’s a great example from Richard Beck in Experimental Theology of the writings of Saint Bernard.

Blessings,

Andrew
